Education and Outreach

Group and School Visits

Borders Textile Towerhouse brings the Curriculum for Excellence alive. Our collections are ideal for exploring literacy, numeracy, the arts, social sciences and technologies; all thought-out by experienced museum educators. Teachers can extend their learning beyond the classroom and pupils and students engage with the museum through discovery, discussion and hands on activities. Each trip is managed and tailored by our Education Officer.

For more information please contact Shaureen Lammie on 01450 378118 or shaureen.lammie@liveborders1.org.uk.

Pre-school children love to learn about the different animals that produce fibres, and participate in our sheep trail. Primary school pupils love to learn about the mill industry, knitting and weaving, while secondary school pupils learn about all aspects of manufacturing and textile design.  We offer inspiration and insight to University students, or prospective students, thinking about a career in fashion design or the textile industry and work closely with local textile companies and Universities.

Outreach

For craft lovers, Borders Textile Towerhouse offers a wide range of workshops and demonstrations throughout the year and has a lively events calendar. Our outreach programme allows our experienced museum staff and Education and Outreach Officer to visit your school or community centre to deliver bespoke learning sessions or to give talks on any of the exhibitions on display in the building.
